About Me

My photo
Sally
We are a nature-loving family in the Columbia Gorge with mom, dad, two boys, 5 cats, 28 chickens, 2 roosters, and 19 ducks. We all enjoy spending time with each other; going on nature walks down to the Columbia, visiting with friends, trips into Portland, camping, Civil War reenacting (more camping!), hiking, picnics, gardening, wildcrafting, cooking, reading, experimenting, building things, birding, sewing, crafting, and whatever happens to strike our fancy. The boys have never gone to public school; we all prefer to learn things about the world in a more natural way and do the things that interest us the most and bring us the most joy. We value truth and beauty in the world and enjoy the ideas of many great thinkers in the world, past and present. ~Sally

Quotes

  • "I swore never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." -- Elie Weisel
  • "Oftentimes the thing that makes the difference between a good student and a poor one, a good learner or a bored human being, is just a little curiosity. If you have it, cultivate it, feed it. Never let it go. If you do not have it, get it. Wonder, watch, ask questions, be alive. It's just that simple. -Marjorie Hinckley
  • “Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind….Hear the music of voices, the song of the bird, the mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you would be stricken deaf tomorrow. Touch each object as if tomorrow your tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of the flowers, taste with relish each morsel, as if tomorrow you could never smell and taste again. Make the most of every sense; glory in all the facets of pleasure and beauty which the world reveals to you.” -Helen Keller
